Last week, a U.S. military court sentenced Canadian citizen and former child combatant Omar Khadr was sentenced to 40 years behind bars for killing a U.S. soldier. Upon hearing the verdict, Khadr's lawyer Dennis Edney uttered this priceless piece of understatement: "Justice was not served today."

Fraud artists find the internet to be a highly useful tool. They use it in many creative ways to bilk people out of money. One approach that is extremely lucrative for them is the romance scam. Those stung suffer not only financial loss but heartbreak as well.
A small but vocal and intractable group of dissenters has long believed the 9/11 attacks did not happen as the U.S. government says they did. Truthers, as they are known, suggest the role of al-Qaeda has been overstated or invented. They point fingers at shadowy state forces being involved in a massive cover-up - or complicit in the attacks themselves.

The Rob Ford fiasco undermines the Rob Ford solution to the urban situation. His solution to the cost of services is to cut taxes and let services shrivel. He even contemplated closing libraries. His solution to gun crime is to ban all criminals convicted of gun offenses from living in Toronto and to demand an additional $10 million from the province for more police. Notice the contradiction between cutting taxes and demanding more money. He wants no part of "hug a thug" programs, and while he has had his football team he has opposed City Council giving financial support to other youth programs that might have a role to play in prevention.
Richard Fadden, Director of the Canadian Security and Intelligence Service (CSIS), has stirred up a hornets' nest in saying that foreign influence is being exercised by two premiers and by municipal officials in British Columbia.
Ottawa blogger Yahya Abdul Rahman is disputing former CSIS Director Reid Morden's assertion that mosques in Canada are stoking extremism, leading some members to plan to commit violent acts.
