One of my great pleasures in life is buying art books with full colorplate pictures. That pleasure is multiplied when I find a rare volume that spans the often vast divide between art and science.

The longer and complete form of the first question in the headline is - When is a terrorist not a terrorist in the eyes of the Obama administration (not to mention all of its predecessors) and the governments of the Western world?
During the eighth century CE, some 1300 years ago, Muslims established the unprecedented concept of "religious sciences." On May 15, the blog "Window into Palestine" carried a story about a Palestinian-Canadian who found a strange government form on the internet. The Canadian Adult Simplified Renewal Passport Application asked place of birth, and the answer was to be chosen from a drop-down menu. For Palestinians born in the West Bank, the entry was "West Bank of Jordan-Jordan."

For emphasis, he adds, "I will give you your money back."
