Jeffery Simpson, columnist for The Globe and Mail, once neatly summed up the problem faced by Israel's public relations managers in the West.
Islam demands from its adherents to work hard for the cause of justice and considers that work a life-long religious duty and a moral virtue. The Qur'an reiterates that principle hundreds of times and the Prophet's tradition and practice both have volumes of examples.
To explain the physical world, Albert Einstein (1879-1955) had to introduce a space-time force. For example, gravity's pull on you is not only a function of your weight (mass), and where you are with respect to the earth's surface; it also depends on time, functioning as a fourth dimension.
As best I can recall, I first met Saudi Arabia’s Prince Turki al-Faisal at a private home in Washington years ago. I found him stern and humorless, sometimes even bitter. I have seen him since at international conferences and the like — never in the mood for small talk and exhibiting, sometimes in his glorious robes, not an ounce of Bedouin charm. Still, I was unprepared for the opinion column he published in Sunday’s Post. It read like a declaration of war.

Arab freedom does not rank very high in Stephen Harper's priorities. That is why neither Canada nor the U.S. was cheering very loudly when the Egyptians were in the process of throwing off the chains of the Mubarak dictatorship. In that situation, Harper's expression of concern was that Egypt needed to keep the commitments made with Israel. The U.S. waffled because it wanted to keep its options open no matter who won.
A world-class drama is unfolding in Canada.
Dear sisters and brothers, friends and loved ones,
The Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) research project is clearly one of the most significant studies of its kind in identifying the impact of childhood experiences on later dysfunctions.
It was either in 1962 or 1963. I was fresh out of graduate school in my first social work job, at Brightmoor Community Center in Detroit. In those times racial conflict was never far from mind. At Brightmoor, we received a post card inviting us to send someone to a meeting, clearly a meeting to prevent black people from moving into white neighborhoods. Of course, nothing that crude was said openly. I was assigned to go.
