Two months after Egypt's events of June 30, a domestic opinion poll found 68 percent of the respondents call the events a "revolution." Last summer, Vladimir Putin has, it seems, let the air out of President Barack Obama's balloon. On September 25, Stephen Harper boldly announced to the UN Panel on Maternal and Child Health that over a period of five years Canada would contribute $203 million to improve conditions of child birth and pregnancy in the developing world. Hamas has been accused of interfering in Egypt's internal affairs; an earlier accusation mentioned Syria. Such accusations are unprecedented, as well as unfounded, because ever since the movement was founded, it has never interfered in any Arab country's affairs; even when called upon to do so and weigh in, the movement stuck to its position and refused.
On September 18, there was a horrific accident in Ottawa, involving a bus and a train, with injury and loss of life. In quick response to this event, the Royal Ottawa Hospital held a public information session a week later, to inform survivors, families and friends, and the general public about how to cope with such traumatic events. Psychologists Luis Oliver and Michele Boivin presented the information.
Despite the heavy death toll on Egyptians of all backgrounds, Dr. Tyseer Aboulnasr, former Professor of Electrical Engineering in the School of Information Technology and Engineering, University of Ottawa, and Professor at the University of British Columbia, said she still thinks demonstrations that led to the ouster of President Morsi, and the bloody aftermath, were a price that had to be paid to stop the systemic destruction of Egypt as a state.
