An Open letter to Ontario MPPs

It is a sad day for Ontario and Ontarians when its legislators support censorship and attempt to shut down free speech.

To all MPPs and their leaders who supported Peter Shurman’s motion regarding Israel Apartheid Week: Do you know that this same Peter Shurman denies the right of Palestinians to live with dignity on their own land?

Publicly, and in a debate with Sid Ryan on Michael Coren’s show a few months before the provincial election, stated: “There is no such thing called Palestinian people.”

It is very hard to believe that someone who holds such views genuinely cares about peace and human rights!

The debate about Israel’s occupation and brutal oppression of Palestinians is taking place all over the globe, including occupied Palestine, and countless articles have appeared in major papers like Ha’aretz, Le Monde Diplomatique and The Guardian.

I suggest that you read Professor Ilan Pappé’s book Ethnic Cleansing Of Palestine, or at least read this brief review by Stephen Lendman: www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=4715

I wonder how many of you know that former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and current Defence Minister Ehud Barak openly use the term apartheid:

“Ehud Barak, Israel’s defence minister, last night delivered an unusually blunt warning to his country that a failure to make peace with the Palestinians would leave either a state with no Jewish majority or an ‘apartheid’ regime.”

Finally, I hope you reflect on your vote while reading the following quote by Desmond Tutu:

“I’ve been very deeply distressed in my visit to the Holy Land; it reminded me so much of what happened to us black people in South Africa. I have seen the humiliation of the Palestinians at checkpoints and roadblocks, suffering like us when young white police officers prevented us from moving about.”
