  • Netanyahu rebranding IsraelAlan Hart
    May 17, 2011

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, a master of Zionist double-speak and deception, is about to undertake the most important assignment of his life.

The headline over an article in Ha-aretz by Bradley Burston on Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu's poker game with President Obama was If Obama wins in November, is Netanyahu in trouble? That's a question I've had in my own mind for quite some time and it begs another. What, really, worries Netanyahu most - the prospect (not real) of Iran posing an existential threat to Israel or the prospect (real) of a second-term Obama?

I am sure that U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta is right when he says that Israel has not yet made up its mind about whether or not to attack Iran's nuclear facilities. The question is - What will most likely be the determining factor in the mind of Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu?

    June 10, 2010

Dear Mr. Mansbridge: I was expecting to be disappointed by your interview with Netanyahu, knowing that the CBC would have to be respectful of him as leader of Israel, but I was appalled at your refusal -- or inability -- to confront him on the dangerous propaganda and outright lies that he had the chuzpah to spew on CBC, including:

    March 6, 2014

I have long thought that Dr. Hanan Ashrawi, a senior member of the PLO's Executive Committee and the Palestine Legislative Council, is the most articulate spokesperson in Israeli occupied territory for her cause. Her latest comment is a bleak assessment of the prospects for getting a real peace process going. She was responding to a statement by an Obama administration official that both Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and Palestinian President Abbas will be able to "express reservations about individual provisions" in the framework document Secretary of State Kerry is preparing. Here's what Ashrawi said:

  • Never ending NakbaAlan Hart
    May 22, 2012

As Ilan Pappe has said, most Israeli Jews have no idea of what they did to the Palestinians in 1948. (He also said that those who do know don't think that what was done was wrong). But that's only the tip of an iceberg of ignorance.

    October 18, 2016

Study and Work Permit holders from visa-exempt countries who received their permit on or before July 31, 2015 now need an Electronic Transfer Authorization or an eTA to fly or transit to Canada. The leniency period that allows travellers to board their flight without an eTA ends on November 9, 2016. However, up until November 9, 2016, you can board your flight without an eTA, as long as you have appropriate travel documents such as a valid passport. During this leniency period, border services officers can let you enter the country as long as you meet the other requirements to enter Canada.

    March 10, 2013

On December 15, 2012, the system for determining refugee claims made in Canada underwent significant changes as a result of the coming into force of the Balanced Refugee Reform Act and the Protecting Canada’s Immigration System Act, the latter of which amends both the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and the Balanced Refugee Reform Act.

USMCA (United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement), son of NAFTA, means that Canada has been forced to make some important concessions. The notorious tariff on steel and aluminum, exempted from coverage as being necessary for defense, may be a prelude to other similar exceptions. The ongoing softwood lumber battle is not resolved, as the U.S. appeals and appeals, but objects when Canada does to the World Trade Organization.
